COVID-19 Testing

If you need to get tested for COVID-19, the best place to start is by contacting your primary care doctor to be screened. Most insurance companies require a pre-screening/authorization from a doctor in order for a COVID-19 test to be covered.

**It’s important not to just get tested anywhere as that testing site/lab may not be in-network with your insurance and you could get stuck with an expensive out-of-pocket bill.**

Don’t have an established medical home or primary doctor? Contact HAAM Member Services for healthcare & insurance navigation help to get connected to care - email support@myhaam.org or call 512-541-4226 (option 3).

If you are currently uninsured, call the CommUnity Care hotline at 512-978-8775 to be screened and connected to a testing site. if you’re experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, the City of Austin also offers an online self-assessment to register for FREE testing.

Telehealth Services

If you need to see a doctor for a minor illness or injury*, consider using telehealth services from the comfort of your home. Most telehealth services allow you to see a doctor by video, phone or text, so you can minimize your risk of both spreading germs and exposing yourself to new germs.

All ACA insurance plans offer telehealth services and many other plans do as well. Visit our Using Your Insurance page or contact your insurance company for more information.

*If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, contact your doctor ASAP to be screened by phone. If you don't have an established primary doctor, see the Hotlines section below for alternative screening options. Do not visit the hospital unless your symptoms are life-threatening.

Loss of Health Coverage

If you lost health coverage due to a job loss, you may be eligible for a Special Enrollment Period. Foundation Communities is open for phone appointments year-round: call 512-381-4520, email enroll@foundcom.org, or click here to schedule.
