Dad Boy is the dance/alt-pop project of Austin musician Janson Sommers. In 2020, after several years spent in the indie rock scene, Sommers returned to the laptop-based production style he started off with in high school. In 2021 he released his first EP as Dad Boy—alternative pop music split between hip hop head-nodders and up-tempo house music, all anchored by Sommers’ intimate singing style. In 2022 he briefly ditched the Dad Boy moniker and released two tracks as Janson Sommers. ‘Riding’ explored trap drums and soulful vocals, while ‘Neon God’ marked his first foray into grimy, borderline-Industrial dance music.

In the summer of 2023 he began performing live as Dad Boy, enlisting long-time collaborator Ross Woods to bring his songs to life via MPC’s, synths and guitars. For the majority of 2024, Sommers dealt with mental and physical health problems. Though his release schedule slowed down, he still put out two singles in the midst of never-ending doctor visits: Body Magick and Lookalikes—ironically, two of his most body-moving tracks to date. After slowly mending his health issues, Sommers returns with a bevy of Dad Boy tracks for the rest of 2025, all with a renewed uptempo vigor and focus on the dance floor.
